Anders Peterson

2016 Young Artists Competition Winner

Anders Peterson is a 16 year old sophomore clarinetist from Northfield, Minnesota where he attends Northfield High School. He is a three year member of the Minnesota Youth Symphony and currently plays in their Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Manny Laureano. He is also a member of the NHS Concert Band under Director Mary Williams and NHS Symphony Orchestra under director Paul Ousley.

Since grade 5, Anders has studied with Dr. Jun Qian, formerly of St. Olaf College and now Associate Professor of Clarinet at Baylor University, Waco, Texas. He also collaborates with Lori Folland, staff pianist at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Anders has performed as a soloist at diverse venues including St. Olaf College’s Boe Chapel, Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Jones Hall at Baylor University and the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Texas. He began his competitive musical career in events open to the public in January of 2016 and the DVS Young Artists Competition is the first such award he has received.

Anders followed his success at the DVS auditions with several competitive musical awards in January of 2016. He won the prestigious, 59th annual, YPSCA Young Artists competition’s top prize and will perform next winter in several Young People’s Series Concerts with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Roderick Cox. Anders also won the Earl C. Benson Concerto Competition sponsored by the Medalist Concert Band in Bloomington. Anders will perform in several Medalist Concert Band events in 2016 and in the featured artist round in the MPR sponsored 2016 Minnesota Varsity Competition. Anders has also been invited to perform with the Bloomington Minnesota Symphony Orchestra by virtue of his performance in the recently held MYS Symphony Orchestra solo competition.
